Updated my Substack account

After listening to advice from several different authors I’ve interviewed, I decided to beef up my SubStack account. There is, of course the free version I’ve always had. That will remain as is. The problem is, all I was using it for was to promote the podcast episodes of Writers Block Party, which is currently hosted on Patreon.

My problem with Patreon, as some of my long-time followers may recall, is that I wanted to post both my podcast and promote my own creative writing. But the only way I saw fit to do that was create a second podcast. So I tried… for a while. But found I wasn’t organized enough to handle two weekly podcasts (well, not yet anyway…)

My solution: Keep Writers Block Party on Patreon for now, but offer a slightly more inclusive membership offer on SubStack. Here’s how I envision it:

First of all, there is a FREE subscription, which will pretty much continue as it.

Next, there is an individual subscription ($7 per month or $70 per year) that gives you access to:

  1. Ad-free versions of the podcast Writers Block Party
  2. Previews of whatever story I’m currently working on (maybe a chapter of a book, maybe a short story) plus the ability to provide feedback
  3. Access to everything in the archive.

Next, there is a GROUP subscription (2 or more people). Each member of the group gets the same perks as the individual subscription, but at a discounted price ($56 per person.)

And finally, there is a higher subscription level called Collaborator. This is for people who want to help shape where this substack goes in the future. Collaborators enjoy:

  1. Everything in the individual subscription
  2. Input on future posts – how can we expand/improve the site?
  3. Input on future guests for the podcast
  4. A chance to co-host some episodes of the podcast.

How is all this going to play out? We’ll see. I’m looking forward to offering my creative writing in addition to the podcast.

So, check it out for yourself and let me know what you think. Register for Danothy.Substack here.
